Tutoring has always been a fantastic way for students and other academically-inclined folk to earn a little money on the side.
And now that the internet is here, you donāt even need to leave your house to do it. But, it can be tough to sift through all the online tutoring jobs out there.
Which ones are scammy? And which ones pay peanuts?
We did some of the sifting for you (arenāt we nice?), and found some online tutoring jobs that pay $20 per hour ā and are hiring right now.
1. QKids
If a classroom full of grimy squealing kids isnāt your scene⦠we get it. You can still work as a teacher. Better yet: You work as a teacher, set your own hours and work from home.
QKids is an online-learning platform thatās been around since 2015. Itās focused on teaching English as a second language to students between ages 5 and 12. Right now, itās hiring.
Here are the basic qualifications:
- You must be a native English speaker based in the U.S. or Canada.
- You should have a bachelorās degree ā or be currently enrolled in a university program.
- You need to be available to teach a minimum of six hours a week. Thatās 12 half-hour classes.
- You must consider yourself digitally literate, have an outgoing personality and show passion in the classroom.
- Prior teaching experience is preferred, but not required.
Angela Brumbaugh is a QKids teacher. She teaches 36 half-hour sessions a week and makes up to $20 an hour.
āThe curriculum is set for you before class, and your job is to simply guide the children through the lesson, offering guidance, smiles and tons of encouragement,ā she says. Thatās a big perk for many: No lesson planning.

2. Chegg
Chegg is a platform where students can find tutors. After you log in with Facebook and create a profile, you can get matched with students in any subject ā and earn $20 per hour.
Youāll be required to prove youāre currently or were previously enrolled in a university by submitting copies of your diploma, student ID card or unofficial transcripts.
Unlike the other companies on this list, Cheggās Glassdoor reviews are mixed, so do your research before applying.
3. Revolution Prep
Looking for a full-time tutoring job? Then Revolution Prep is looking for you.
Itās hiring professional tutors to ādeliver exceptional one-on-one instruction to students grades 6-12 in a variety of academic subjects and college admissions tests.ā
You must have at least a bachelorās degree, plus the ability to work evenings and weekends. In return, youāll earn $20 per hour ā plus bonuses, health insurance, a 401(k) and paid time off.
